The cipín case is a modern tribute to the roots of bodhrán playing.
The word cipín comes from the Irish for "little twig" (cip = branch, -ín = small), a nod to the original players who shaped Irish drumming traditions using hand-whittled sticks—long before today’s tippers were crafted in workshops.
Designed by award-winning Irish percussionist Ruairí Glasheen and handmade just a short cycle from his studio in North London, each cipín case is a piece of functional heritage. While contemporary in design, it carries the spirit of the tradition—versatile, robust, and made with care.
Why Wax Cotton?
Each wax cotton cipín case is made from luxury designer deadstock—leftover rolls from the fashion industry that would otherwise be incinerated or sent to landfill. This makes your case not only beautifully crafted but also sustainable, with each run offering a unique limited-edition colourway.. oh, and did we mention they are water resistant too?!
Lined with mustard deadstock cotton canvas and finished with Italian suede details (including the hand-cut and hand-printed cipín case tag), it’s tactile, sturdy, and built to travel.
